We landed on the moon?????!!!! That is so awesome!!!!!!!
Good to see Buzz Lightyear is still with us to celebrate the 45th anniversary of this most remarkable of human achievements!!
Wow, ol “Q” Quincy Jones seems more senescent than Buzz, even though he’s a few years younger…all the best though!
Very very cool compilation of various celebs sounding off about how great it was, but ironically the video was led off by Jared Leto, who really had nothing to say, cause he was still 2 years off from being a zygote when it happened…can’t believe the dude is already 42 though. And definitely rockin’ the Jesus look these days lol
I remember watching the E! True Hollywood Story on William Shatner, right before he hit it big by getting the Capt Kirk gig, which occurred only a couple weeks after the moon landing. He said he was living out of his camper and was parked out in the desert and listening to it on the radio when it happened…the irony of it all, the person who would become the most famous (fake) spaceship captain in history and his life situation as this historic event was occurring with the real most famous spaceship captain in the world
Actually, I think your memory is serving you incorrectly on this one. The last episode of Star Trek was filmed in January of 1969…Shatner did say he was out in his camper in the desert listening to it on the radio when it happened, but that was after Star Trek had been cancelled after only 3 seasons (and before the Trekkie cultural swell began), and he was an out-of-work, depressed actor who was in desperate times living out of his camper, but that hearing the moon landing on the radio lifted his spirits…and then the rest is history, for both him and Buzz
Cool factoid: In 1969, July 20th was a Sunday. It is also a Sunday this year of the 45th anniversary
Another historic event occurred only 20 days later, though this one was one that sent shock waves through the whole world. Just after midnight, in the early hours of of August 9th, Charles Manson’s followers proceeded to commit what were probably the most infamous mass murders in US history, when they slaughtered actress Sharon Tate and 4 others at her residence in Benedict Canyon. In the early morning hours of the next day they slaughtered Rosemary and Leno LaBianca at their house in Los Feliz. The infamous “Tate-LaBianca” murders. The supposed start of “Helter Skelter.” The ‘peace-and-love’ 60’s with all of the hippies and the progressive changing cultural mores very starkly ended that weekend. 1969 was a crazy year.
Too bad Neil Armstrong isn’t with us anymore. Missed it by 2 years. RIP
Whatever happened to Michael Collins? Why is he not part of this? He was the 3rd of the 3 astronauts on Apollo 11, although he never stepped off the lunar module to actually set foot on the moon. I guess he only gets a consolation prize…
Walking on the moon. Meh. Doesnt seem like such a big deal anymore lol. When we walk on Mars, if that ever happens, now THAT will be something
Are you sure that isn’t Kirk Douglas? Lol
So now the question is, who will get us on Mars first – Elon Musk or Richard Branson?
Actually, which one of them will get us general space travel first? Mars is way, way off from now…
Why was Elon Musk not part of this video?
Well, they did include Gwynn Shotwell, President and COO of Space X
maybe Elon didn’t want to be in the same video as Richard Branson, so he sent Gwynn out there on his behalf haha
surprised the POTUS Obama wasn’t in this…
they could have at least sent Biden out to be in this. it’s not like he’s got a lot on his plate lol
I was 11 and I remember staying up late and watching it with my grandma
Most amazing event in my life time. While many people from around the world were involved, at the end of the day the Apollo program was AMERICAN!!! PROUD!!!
The Mayor of London is featured in this video. Yet not the Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford?? WTF??!!
Rob Ford, aka Chris Farley
i was swimming INSIDE my mom looking for an egg, and fortunately i found one :)
I wasn’t born yet, but my father was stopped at a red light in downtown Cincinnati when he heard the news Apollo 11 had landed.
truly one of mankind’s greatest achievements
Buzz Aldrin is the man!!
I wasn’t alive yet to experience this, but hopefully in my lifetime I will be able to witness the first manned landing on Mars
I thought this whole man walking on the moon thing had been debunked as a hoax…
My father was only 4 years old so i wasnt even a twinkle in his eye yet 🙂
I had just turned 5. I didn’t understand the significance, but I was fascinated with it all. As I got older and learned to read I read everything I could on space, space exploration and the US and Soviet space programs. I’m still a space junkie.
i was just a kid at the time, but it made me want to become an astronaut…
i was just a kid too, and it also made me want to become an astronaut. but now ill just have to settle for being a passenger on virgin galactic someday. well, if i win the lotto, that is, so i can buy the plane ticket…
i still dont see what the big deal is. then again, i guess i just suffer from “millenial-ism” lol
we can put people on the moon, yet we still can’t cure male pattern baldness…scratching my (bald) head
felt so proud to be an american that day!!
i felt so proud to be a citizen of earth that day!
wonder how it felt to be a russian that day lol
it was a truly great achievement. but back down on earth we were engaging in the vietnam war and the cold war in general. i just remember thinking of that contrast
I wasn’t born yet when Apollo 11 landed on the Moon, but I hope I’m still here when humans set foot on Mars!
I remember every moment of the descent and landing like it was yesterday. When the message the Eagle has landed came through the TV I remember my mother gasping and praying aloud for the 3 astronauts to return safely. I was 9 years old. what a wonderful time to be growing up.
I was a kid in summer camp and we watched it on a portable TV. The moon was nearly full, and one of the other kids joked around that he could see the astronauts hopping around the moon.
I didn’t exist yet (except as a desire in my father’s cojones)
I was only 1 year old, but a few years later when i was able to learn about it all i wanted to do was be an astronaut. Thought it was the coolest thing in the world
was a young kid at the time, but just loved the hell out of it. i wanted to leave earth and go to the moon!
As the mayor of Toronto, I believe I should have been in that video!!!
i was a scatter of atoms until i formed into a sperm cell 12 years after the landing
buzz aldrin talking about social media, smartphones, tablets etc absolutely amazes me.
buzz lightyear’s eyes clearly show he doesn’t read very well off the teleprompter lol
maybe he should take lessons from POTUS, the greatest teleprompter reader in history
the moon landing is old news. let’s get to the mars landing
Love the Buzz!! Hope he’s still with us for the 50th anniversary too!!
I was sitting in my living room with the rest of my family watching it on TV with tremendous excitement. Such an astonishing historic feat.
so terrific that Buzz is still with us to celebrate the 45th anniversary of this historic event. go Buzz!!
too bad it’s not the 50th anniversary, that would be even better
Honestly, I would loved to have seen Mayor Rob Ford of Toronto in this thing too!!!
Maybe we should send Rob Ford to the moon!! Just give him a bunch of booze, coke and a blow-up doll and he’ll be fine!
I was just a baby at the time, cradled in my mother’s arms, when the whole family was watching it on tv. so technically, i saw it too. just a little hard to remember much of it lol
who is this guy patton oswalt who’s featured on this video. apparently he’s some kind of celeb?
maybe i missed it in the video, but is there supposed to be some kind of big event happening on sunday july 20th to commemorate this, like a big convention or party or something?
one small step for man but one giant leap for mankind and f*ck the ussr lol
i guess putin wasn’t available to be in this video, huh??
the sad fact is that NASA has basically been gutted and we don’t have a viable, official space program anymore…yet russia does
that’s why we have to rely on the likes of richard branson and elon musk, neither of which are actually americans lol
actually, somehow or other elon musk is an american citizen, even though born in south africa to a canadian mother and south african father. regardless, the guy lives here and does all his business here, so he is essentially an american whether he is technically a US citizen or not…and I’m pretty sure he is, anyway
i wasn’t alive on july 20th, 1969, but i will be able to witness the 45th anniversary of the moon landing on july 20th, 2014 lol
wonder what the GI’s in vietnam thought about all this going on? i wonder if they even gave a sh*t with bullets flying at them? i know i wouldnt…
such a paradox, with the historic moon landing being a great achievement for all of mankind to celebrate, while we were engaged in a bloody war here on earth
great achievement for all of mankind to celebrate (except the russians lol)
i guess in a way the moon landing was also a US victory over the USSR and by extension global communism, since we got there first
as i write this comment, it is now officially sunday, july 20th, 2014, pacific time. happy 45th!!
Happy 45th Buzz!!! And to all of mankind!!
if NASA weren’t gutted today, i wonder how much more easy it would be to put people on the moon, to do more extensive ground exploring?
the moon is old news at this point, we can just send unmanned rovers up there to explore the terrain. the new frontier is mars…
Mars is the new Moon…
I thought it was faked. i watched it on tv when i was 11 years old and felt something was wrong. anyway congrats if indeed was real..lol
can’t help but laugh when i heard wolfgang puck talk about it…just the way he talks lol
JJ Abrams says he still has the original newspaper from that day. that’s gotta be worth some coin now
i doubt he’s gonna be selling it though, he don’t need the money, although I would lol
actually, if i didnt need the money, i would wait 5 more years till the 50th and THEN sell it…would be worth much more at that point
Wouldn’t that be hilarious if we could send Buzz to land on Mars, too?
or at least get that space travel developed by either virgin galactic or space x so we can send him into space again
He could be the pilot or co-pilot lol
hilarious how Buzz says the whole world celebrated the event but he missed the whole thing cause he was out of town
buzz is looking and sounding pretty old there, i think he’s about 84 but he sounds about 104. but i hope the guy makes it to the 50th anniversary
i dont want to be a naysayer, but seeing him there, i dont see him makin it another 5 years to the 50th anniversary…
hilarious seeing Buzz talking about tablets, smartphones and hashtags, and for all ‘you young people’ to teach your parents and grandparents how to use these things lol
i didn’t know john travolta was a pilot. gotta love the handlebar moustache lol
you’d think they’d give richard branson more than 5 seconds to say something on this video, considering who he is in this whole scheme of things
pretty much everyone said they were just sitting in front of the tv watching it or listening to it on the radio…that pretty much sums it up
sad that on the anniversary of this historic day that the world is imploding, kinda like it was back in ’69. i guess some things never change
True, but i guess you gotta take the good with the bad, cause there’s always gonna be bad here on earth
So where is the party at? Does this all culminate in some big party somewhere, or at least a TV special?
Tom Hanks in that video is so cool, but they shoulda given him more than 3 seconds lol
nice video, but the celeb clips were too fast. then again, i guess it’s really all about buzz aldrin
surprised obama wasn’t in the video
i wasnt even close to being born yet at that time, but i can imagine the sense of wonderment at it all for everyone. it would be like us witnessing someone land on mars now
bet that buzz was real popular with the ladies when he got back 🙂
i bet all of those guys were…maybe michael collins less so lol
thinking of this also reminds me of the Challenger shuttle blowing up in 1986 and the Columbia doing the same in 2003…those guys were lucky back in 1969 to have made it back
it doesn’t seem like such a big deal today with all that we can do, but i can imagine how huge of a deal it was 45 years ago, a totally different time altogether. kudos
if we’d kept the space program vibrant all these years as much as we did when we tried to get to the moon in the first place, then perhaps we could be having regular space shuttle landings to the moon already…
let’s hope the private sector (virgin and space x) will revive the moribund space industry
Buzz and all the astronauts are a tribute to America and mankind. They are true pioneers.
ah space, the latest futile attempt by man to see God…these episodes seem to get more expensive as the ages go by and always of course financed by the people (taxes) who have nothing to gain but pay all the cost…unless you have a real affinity for super air infused rubber the only thing that wasn’t already known by scientists the space program has ever contributed to humanity… scientists have known for along time that there is nothing there and there never will be except the useless and expensive toys/junk they leave behind…those who continue to pursue this vain folly are either truly fooled or milking the scam…time to refocus.
