So what exactly is the Higgs Boson?

Stephen Hawking is claiming it can destroy the world. Other physicists say it can fill in the missing pieces in the modern physics. will Leading up to and following the announcement of its  discovery in 2012 by scientists working at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider or LHC, the Higgs Boson, (commonly referred to as the God Particle) has received far more media attention than any other topic in physics in the last generation. The researchers who theorized the particles existence in the 1960’s won a Noble Prize for there work in 2013.  You may have heard of the documentary Particle Fever, which follows researchers in the hunt for the illusive particle. However,  you may still be wondering, what is all the hype about? How and why can something be called the God Particle? What does that even mean? In an attempt to answer these questions. Minute Physics produced three videos which offer an explanation of the Higgs, explain why it is so important, and contextualize the discovery within the field of physics. Enjoy.
