Lots of attention is focused on non-fossil fuel alternative energy sources such as solar energy or wind farms. But what about mining mineral rich asteroids? The Google engineer Ian Webster created Asterank for the visualization of asteroids in the inner solar system. According to Google Chrome,”Asterank is an astronomically accurate interactive visualization of our inner solar system. It displays thousands of asteroids along with economic appraisals of top space mining prospects.” The tool was acquired by the asteroid mining company Planetary Resources in 2013.
